Queen Katherine Academy Nursery (The Thomas Deacon Education Trust)
The nursery is housed within the grounds of Queen Katherine Academy and supports a wide range of children within 3 rooms. Currently, the setting has 17 staff working a variety of part-time and full-time hours. As an assessor, I have been working with Queen Katherine Academy (previously The Voyager Nursery) for 9.5 years. They have supported numerous apprentices and work experience students throughout that time, offering a supportive work environment that encourages learning and development.
Currently, this employer has 2 Level 3 Apprentices working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator Framework. There are also 2 learners currently enrolled on the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Advanced Practice).
Natalie Hall, Assessor, and IQA
“Staff at the Nursery hold a wide variety of qualifications, but also acknowledge the need to keep up to date. To provide the quality service we strive for, it is vitally important that we invest in our Nursery team’s professional development. We also value the sharing of knowledge and expertise within the Nursery, which happens informally on a daily basis as well as through a whole range of meetings. We work alongside City College because they are able to offer flexible learning to our staff, especially those who work full time. We have been particularly pleased with the opportunity to develop our staff through the range of higher-level qualifications on offer. 2 of our staff members, who were previously Level 3 Apprentices with City College Peterborough will be completing their Level 5 qualifications this summer and have already been accepted onto Level 6 BA HONS (Top-up) courses as a result of this. This is something we are very proud of in the setting.”
Alison Dimeglio, Nursery Manager
“Studying through City College Peterborough has been amazing. I love being able to work full time and still gain the qualifications I need to progress in my role and to better myself. Through City College I’ve completed my Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification, a level 2 in Team Leading and a Level 5 Diploma In Leadership for the Children and Young People’s Workforce – Early Years. The apprenticeship hubs are a great way to sit alongside your assessor and tackle any assignments in a quiet environment”.
“My assessor throughout these courses has been amazing. She recommended me for courses and always offered support and guidance professionally and through personal experiences. She went above and beyond her role to encourage me and guide me. Having an assessor that comes into my setting makes the process so much more efficient and gave me an opportunity to display my practice first hand. Work-based observations and professional conversations support with meeting the requirements.
The courses I’ve completed have now given me the qualifications to do my degree. A huge thank you to my assessor Natalie, I will highly recommend this route to qualifications to all the staff in my setting”.
