City College: Proud to be associated with Peterborough’s own online gift shop

Peterborough now has its own dedicated online shop designed to promote our City’s talented artists and crafts people and sell souvenirs, publications and gifts on the worldwide web.

The website – www.peterboroughgiftshop.com – is the brainchild of Chris Lane, who teaches at City College Peterborough and the city’s Tourism Manager, Tracy Snooks, who wanted to create a new outlet for local artists when the Tourist Information Centre in Bridge Street closed at the end of 2019.

The aim of the online shop is to help local artists reach a wider audience and enable Peterborough branded souvenirs and local artworks to be more widely available  The peterboroughgiftshop.com has been developed as an online shop especially for arts and crafts people who live or work in Peterborough to provide a platform to sell their work alongside others.

City College Peterborough tutor and website developer, Chris Lane, said “There is a great deal of creative talent across the city and we see much of it in our very successful Arts and Crafts programmes at the College. It’s great to be able to help local artists reach a wider audience through a dedicated website.  Our aim is to make it the “go to shop for Peterborough gifts, cards and publications.”

“We want to generate a positive vibe about all the positive things that are going on around the city and we intend to showcase the diverse creative and community enterprises on behalf of Peterborough.”

People living in Peterborough, or visitors from elsewhere, can now buy items related to the city, ranging from prints and cards to jewellery and crafts, along with souvenirs such as Peterborough branded coasters and mugs. Local artists including another of City College’s art tutors, Tony Nero; local blacksmith John Downing; street photographer Chris Porsz and former arts and crafts students at the College, Christine Withall (ceramics) and Brian Withall (glassmaker), are just some of the local artisans selling their work on the website.
