National Apprenticeship Week 2016

Western Union

Our National Apprenticeship Week 14th – 18th March 2016

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and traineeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

City College Peterborough staff were very busy throughout the week celebrating the success of our Apprentice of the Term, Lucy Foster, XL Displays, and calling into a number of local businesses across the city to say “thank you” for their continued support with recruiting young people within their business under our Apprenticeship programmes.

Our  first visit was to XL Displays a successful SME business whose growth has been supported by recruiting apprentices to bring new enthusiasm, skills and knowledge to support their business. The team came bearing gifts of cupcakes to say thank you for supporting our apprenticeship programmes. Joanne Bass, Director of XL Displays, said “We have found it really easy to work with City College and are really proud of how our apprentices have developed and what they have achieved.”

During the week, Vice Principal, Tanya Meadows, went ‘Back 2 the Floor’ at Western Union to see what it’s like to be an apprentice.  Tanya spent the morning with Harry ledger, Bevan Prior and Rachel Walmsley who have all recently achieved their NVQ Level 2 Business Administration qualification.  Tanya said “It was a great experience to find out what our young apprentices do within their normal working day in the workplace, combining practical work experience to their classroom studies.  The team at Western Union were really welcoming and I carried out the tasks a typical apprentice would undertake in the workplace.”

The team also stopped by Sunshine homecare; a family run and well established care agency, Computer Repair Specialists-Diamond Byte, Fengate MOT and The Peterborough School Nursery, to say a big thank you for all their support with apprenticeships.

Thanks again to all our apprentices and employers, we look forward to continuing to work with you in the future.

Apprentices are a great way for businesses to build and develop their workforce providing practical, hands-on experience to young people who wish to learn a trade or gain the skills needed in the workplace, If you would like to find out more about apprenticeships or are an employer interested in taking on an apprentice, please call (01733) 555197 and speak to a member of our recruitment team.
