CITY COLLEGE CELEBRATES PETERBOROUGH’S SKILLS WITH WARWICK DAVIS

City College Peterborough held its annual Celebration of Learning event for the fourth year running on Thursday, 17th October 2019 at the historic Peterborough Cathedral. In our biggest and most-eagerly anticipated event to date, a packed-out Cathedral of over 700 including families, friends and special guests watched on as learners and supported people collected their certificates of achievement.

The College’s Celebration of Learning recognises the very impressive achievements throughout the year of its learners and supported people, including Apprentices, 16-19 Learners, Adults and those on the Health and Care Sector Work Academy and Day Opportunities.

Pat Carrington, MBE and Principal of City College, opened the event and spoke about why 2019 is such a special year for the College as it celebrates its 75th Anniversary of providing high-quality learning and training opportunities to Peterborough residents of all ages throughout the years. Pat then congratulated everyone attending on their achievements.

Three very brave learners then stood up in front of the large audience to talk about their own inspirational learning journeys and thank City College for supporting them in their achievements.

The excitement was obvious when our special guest, Warwick Davis, star of “Willow”, “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter”, stood up to talk about his own experiences of learning and recalled that his favourite subject was woodwork, where his greatest achievement making a pair of stilts! Warwick then presented the learners and supported people with their certificates and generously stayed on long after the end of the presentations to sign autographs and pose for selfies with all his fans.

Mayor James Palmer, of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and Gillian Beasley, Chief Executive of Peterborough City Council, presented special awards to the learners, supported people and staff who had been chosen as overall winners in their categories.

Councillor John Holdich OBE, Leader of Peterborough City Council and the College’s Chair of Governors spoke to close the event

The evening ended with a delicious buffet prepared and served by some of the College’s catering students.
