National Apprenticeship Week 2017

City College Peterborough held a variety of events during the week of 6th March 2017 – 11th March 2017

The #JointheJourney bus went through Peterborough advertising how Apprenticeships can help your career and education and answer any questions you may have.

City College Peterborough also visited a variety of employers throughout the week recognising their contribution to Apprenticeships and apprentices.

6th March



City College Peterborough recognise SPAR Cowgate in Peterborough for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. SPAR Cowgate is a family run convenience store which offers everyday essentials and is based in the heart of Peterborough City Centre




7th March







To recognise the hard-work and dedication from employers, City College Peterborough held a short awards presentation for some of the local employers and their apprentices from the Peterborough Community. Employers and apprentices from The Peterborough School, Cross Keys Homes, Axiom Housing and Little Miracles celebrated National Apprenticeship Week by visiting the Brook Street campus and receiving a certificate on behalf of City College Peterborough and the Mayor of Peterborough.

The Peterborough School Nursery was founded in 2002 on the site of the Peterborough School. There are 56 places for children from 62 weeks through to 4 years of age.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate graded the Peterborough School Nursery as Outstanding in December 2015 (for the second time running). The Nursery has continued to support apprenticeships through City College Peterborough for the past 12 years.

Apprentice Lauren Windsor from The Peterborough School Nursey joined the Nursery as a Level 3 Childcare apprentice and has since secured a full-time permanent position as a childcare practitioner and key person. Lauren was recently awarded “Apprentice of the Term” for her personal development within her role, and she is looking to start her university course in Childcare in September.

Cross Keys Homes are Peterborough’s largest social housing landlord, dedicated to providing high quality, affordable housing and building communities.

Over the last 10 years, they have built over 1,300 new homes. Cross Keys actively work to improve communities, investing in our surroundings and creating green spaces and communal facilities.

Cross Keys Homes is the city’s largest provider of independent living, with Lifeline emergency alarm service, sheltered housing, community care and extra care facilities such as Kingfisher court.

Apprentice Alice Clark from Cross Keys joined Cross Keys as an apprentice in 2015, studying Level 3 in Business Administration. She has since secured a full-time position with Cross Keys, and has recently been promoted to a new position as Recovery Officer.

Little Miracles is a charity that supports families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life limiting conditions, providing a place for these children to play, laugh and create friendships.

Little Miracles Family Support workers provide a lifeline and support to the whole family of children with additional needs, including parents, carers and siblings. The centre was rebuilt as part of the Children in Need DIY SOS BBC programme, and has fantastic facilities for disabled children.

Apprentice Jack Cook from Little Miracles joined Little Miracles as an apprentice in 2013, and has completed Level 2 and Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeships through City College Peterborough. Jack is now the Fundraising and Marketing apprentice at Little Miracles, and is studying for his Level 4 qualification with them.

Axiom Housing Association was established in 1967 and own more than 2,200 homes across Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, and provide housing and services to over 5,500 people.

Axiom’s supported services provide support for vulnerable people, those leaving care, people with learning difficulties and with mental and physical health needs. They also develop new homes through Blue Skies development consortium.

Apprentice Hollie Hibbert joined Axiom in 2015 as an apprentice, and went on to secure a full-time position in the HR Department, on completion of her Level 2 Business Administration programme with City College Peterborough.

Hollie has now been offered a second year in the HR department and is continuing her studies with her level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship with Peterborough City College.

City College Peterborough recognise Sunshine Home Care in Wisbech for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. Whether they are elderly or have disabilities, there is nothing like home for  loved ones. Sunshine Home Care share similar concerns about their care and support and naturally want to enable them to remain in and enjoy their own home whenever possible and for as long as possible and can really make a difference to the quality of life of those whom they serve.

8th March

City College Peterborough recognise Apricot Nursery in Peterborough for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. Apricot Nursery are committed to both children and their families and are passionate about providing a safe environment for children and giving them the opportunity to learn and grow.




9th March


City College Peterborough recognise Deafblind UK in Peterborough for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. Deafblind UK is a membership organisation of, and governed by, people who have both a sight and hearing loss. They champion the rights and interests of all people who have a combined sight and hearing loss and deliver quality services to give these individuals autonomy and control over their lives and through their work, support equality, independence and choice.



City College Peterborough recognise Alpha Kindergarten School in Peterborough for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. Alpha Kindergarten School have been caring for children since 1996 and offer a fun and stimulating environment to help children grasp key skills through play, a safe specially designed and self contained environment and a planned and effective childcare provision with a high adult-child ratio for individual attention.



City College Peterborough recognise NetSupport in Market Deeping for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. NetSupport have for the last 25 years been at the forefront of developing innovative solutions to aid in the management of desktop computers and their users. The products NetSupport offer are available in over 90 countries worldwide and currently support over 13 million desktops, servers and mobile devices.



10th March


City College Peterborough recognise The Peterborough School Nursery for their dedication and contribution to Apprenticeships and the apprentices working there. The Peterborough School Nursery is an ‘outstanding’ nursery as rated by Ofsted that is set in a superb house within  the extensive grounds of The Peterborough School.




11th March






Saturday saw the #JointheJourney bus arrive at Serpentine Green shopping centre that provided information and guidance on apprenticeships to prospective individuals.

City College Peterborough held a small stand within the shopping centre advertising how we can help with apprenticeships and the latest vacancies that are held around the Peterborough area.
