City College Peterborough Career Guidance
Your Path, Your choice
“Be Inspired at City College Peterborough”
Welcome to City College Peterborough’s Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance website page
In response to the Governments Gatsby eight benchmarks of Good Careers Guidance, City College Peterborough Careers Strategy details our ambition and dedication to Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and our commitment to young people and our longer-term career plan. We aim to meet the personalized needs of each of our learners through the eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance. This strategy is aimed at learners, parents, carers and employers so we can work cohesively together.
As an organisation we have high aspirations and celebrate creativity, difference and diversity of all the young people we support (16-19 and those up to 25 with an Educational Health Care Plan). We aim to enhance, enrich and develop their lives by empowering them to make the most of opportunities within and beyond curriculum. Our careers strategy has been written for you.
Careers education and student support is a well-established part of the curriculum and Your Path – Your Choice is at the heart of a well-planned and progressive programme of personal, social, health, citizenship and careers modules which enables learners to develop aspirational goals and have structured and incremental support to achieve them.
The Study Programmes careers provision is made up of 5 elements:
- Careers education within the curriculum
- Planning and recording of achievement and work-related activities
- Work experience
- Access to individual and impartial guidance and support
- Access to careers information including all routes and pathways
At the college, we also can offer professional Careers advice from the National Careers Service.
The National Careers Service based in City College Peterborough offers to all those 19 (can be 18 if seeking work and claiming work-related benefits) years and over information, advice and guidance on a one to one basis to discuss all aspects of their career needs.
The range of discussion might include barriers to finding work such as low confidence, skills, qualification needs or how to find the career of your choice, how to prepare an amazing CV, interview practice based on the real job description and likely questions to be asked, or how to fill in an application form often online and with hidden meanings behind some of the questions.
We have access to local market information plus a wealth of contacts in the business and government community in and around Peterborough, both experienced in self-employment and can advise on setting up a small business, including bookkeeping, marketing and invoicing.
Our clients range from people with little English, low skills or qualifications, to postgraduates and the highly qualified in almost all careers settings. If you would like to talk to one of our highly qualified advisors, please email:
Rob Doran – firstname.lastname@example.org or Andy Mitchell – email@example.com
City College has been accredited for over 15 years with the national Matrix Standard for the quality of the information, advice and guidance we provide to support people in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals.
At our last assessment in February 2018, the assessor found that City College “continues to demonstrate real strength in its approach to continuous quality improvement” and that “a differentiated, person-centred approach is being consistently applied through all delivery across a broad range of learners, customers, employers and partners.”
