Businesses are being urged to make the most of a new scheme, led by Skills Excellence and the Skills Funding Agency, which not only helps to boost their team’s core skills but also offers up to £2,400 cash as an incentive and the course is completely free too.
English and Maths skills form a key part of our every day lives, as well as in the vast majority of professions. Whether your team work in an office, on site or remotely, they could benefit hugely from improved English and Maths skills.
To be eligible, businesses must employ less than 250 members of staff – making this scheme ideal for small and medium sized enterprises in Peterborough.
The new scheme revolves around free English or Maths qualifications with:
- Free weekly classroom tuition (currently drop in sessions on Thursday mornings between 9.30-12.30pm) or a free online study programme
- Study towards a recognised City & Guilds qualification in Maths or English
- £800 per person (up to 3 people) on successful completion of the course
You put can put forward as many staff/volunteers as you wish to participate in the free courses as long as they:
- Are employed or volunteering upwards of eight hours per week
- Aged 19 or over
- Committed to completing the programme
Improved English and Maths skills amongst your workforce can boost your business in a huge variety of ways. With improved literacy, your team members will benefit from a boost in confidence – allowing them to become more productive and efficient in their work. Similarly, improved communication and accuracy in numeracy and literacy will enable employees to improve their customer satisfaction.
In addition, these free English and Maths courses are flexible to the demands of your workforce’s every day commitments. We know that additional learning on top of a job takes a lot of balancing. That’s why these courses can be completed with classroom tuition at City College Peterborough or with a free online study programme, which can be accessed by students when it suits them.
If you think your business could benefit from stronger core skills, then now is the time to make the most of this fantastic scheme. Here at City College Peterborough we’re running the courses through 2015 – but places are limited so register your interest today!
