Our drawing and painting courses are very much inclusive of all abilities and formats – whether you want to develop basic techniques, or specialise in pastels or paints, pen and ink, crayon, watercolour, acrylics or oils. There are also courses that specialise in landscapes, creative watercolour, mixed media, photography and botany within art.

Selected courses offer a qualification option.

Drawing and Painting Techniques

This course combines tuition in basic techniques for beginners and more challenging projects for students with experience.
This course will allow you to develop your individual potential, both technical and creative with various techniques of drawing and painting. You will be using mediums such as: pencil, acrylics, charcoal, watercolours’ and oils.
You will be involved in a variety of projects, which introduce different media alongside demonstrations and discussions.

Watercolour Painting

Oil Painting Techniques

Oil and Acrylic Painting Techniques

This course is suitable for those familiar with acrylics or traditional or water based oils. A visual journey sketchbook is advised to document personal progression. Learners can work on paper or canvas or board at and scale.

NOTE: this course uses turps and spirit based paints as well as water based. Please be advised if you have breathing difficulties that may be affected by this.

Colour Theory for all 

An essential for painting, printmaking, textiles and applied arts, knowledge of how colour works will improve your particular specialism. This course will include mixing of colour in both acrylic and watercolour mediums, history of colour, how it can used effectively, and identifying components of colour, as well as learning about the origins of pigments.
